From January 1 2017, the NSW Government changed its Smart and Skilled eligibility requirements to support refugees and asylum seekers into training and jobs.

Providing they meet other Smart and Skilled eligibility and that they hold an eligible visa, both refuges and asylum seekers will be eligible for:

  1. Subsidised training up to and including Advanced Diploma level, and

  1. Fee Free Scholarships up to Certificate IV level.

It is also important to note that holders of an eligible visa who have an identified disability, or who are the dependant of a Disability Support recipient, and who meet other Smart and Skilled eligibility, are exempt from any fees under Smart and Skilled.

This includes refugees and asylum seekers who are enrolling in a Diploma or Advanced Diploma under Smart and Skilled, as long as they have been assessed as suitable for enrolment.
