Domestic violence court observation

This is a unique opportunity to get a first-person perspective on what happens when a woman goes to court to gain an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order.

Domestic violence court observation

14 February 2018

Redfern Legal Centre runs the Sydney Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (SWDVCAS), which assists thousands of women to obtain legal protection from violence, through the use of Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs). It also assists these women with housing, financial and counselling services.

Community workers and volunteers can learn more about this vital service, and about what happens in court. With participant numbers strictly limited to 10, this is a small group session, where you will:

·        Sit in the courtroom at the Downing Centre and observe firsthand the court process as these orders are made;

·        Hear from Susan Smith, Coordinator of SWDVCAS, about the work of the Court Advocacy Service staff.

Cost:

·        Subscribers: Free. Get your Subscriber Number here:

If you can’t attend

This event is not recorded, and we cannot provide any resources to anyone who does not attend, sorry.

We will run the event again several times in 2018 on dates to be announced. I will email you once dates are set.

We do not run similar events at other courts, as RLC only operates at Downing Centre, Waverley and Newtown Courts. I do not know whether other courts have anything similar. You should contact the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service at your local court to enquire.
