• IMPORTANT NEWS – Community Service Workers

      An
important draft bill was released by the NSW Government yesterday that would
allow portable long service leave for 250,000 community sector workers in NSW.
This means workers will be able to access long service leave based on their
time employed in the sector instead of their time employed at a single
      organisation.

Workers in disability care, family and domestic violence services,
homelessness services and many other essential services will benefit from this
reform. It also brings NSW in line with Queensland, Victoria and
the ACT, which have similar schemes.

A draft of the bill is now available for public
consultation and is due to close on 30 April 2024.

This is a critical reform that will support the
sustainability of our sector. NCOSS has been monitoring this closely, providing
feedback to the Department on the scope, approach and impact of the scheme in
recent months. NCOSS has been calling for a portable long service leave scheme
to be introduced for a number of years; now is the time to make the sure the
      design is right.

Have your say on this bill by completing a short
survey or a written submission at this link. The
Department will also be organising an information session; we will let you know
      when this is set up.

      Finally,
NCOSS will be making their own submission. They will work with members (of which CCCC is one), to
ensure that they effectively represent member views, so that the bill meets the
needs of our sector. We will keep you updated!
