Today is White Ribbon Day.
This is a time to stand against violence towards women and promote respectful, safe and healthy relationships. It’s a time to raise more awareness, education and take action to create change.
Earlier this year, The White Ribbon Foundation ran a series of focus groups with men and boys from all ages and stages of life, colours, cultures, shapes and sizes.
What the found was alarming.
They found many men who had never talked about their feelings, who couldn’t say what it meant to be a “good man”, who didn’t understand what non-physical abuse looked like, and who didn’t think they played a role in ending violence against women.
It was clear that the messages in the community about preventing violence weren’t reaching the people who needed to hear it.
We need to go back to basics. We need to get men thinking and talking about their role in ending violence against women. So, they are asking men across Australia to join us and tell us where they’re at with the issue of violence against women.
